NeuCooperating in Intercultural Teams: Communicate, Leverage, Lead (76)
University life is becoming increasingly international. Students and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds work together at universities of applied sciences - intercultural and interdisciplinary teamwork is becoming increasingly important for all parties involved.
Not only the collaboration in intercultural teams itself but also the leadership of such teams can be associated with challenges that need to be reflected upon and resolved.
The seminar aims to examine the advantages and challenges of this collaboration in intercultural teams. Cooperation and management in intercultural and interdisciplinary projects will be addressed with a special focus on universities of applied sciences. In the long term, the goal is to encourage the promotion of collaboration in culturally diverse teams and to illuminate the role of the university in this context.
Furthermore, the training aims to reflect on one's own competence in working in intercultural teams. Through the presentation of case studies and practical exercises, participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own behavioural patterns and experiences, and to develop the ability to deal with and utilize cultural and disciplinary complexity.
Participants will be enabled to promote intercultural collaboration at their universities and create optimal conditions for creative and effective work in intercultural teams. The seminar will be conducted in English.
Course objectives:
The aims of the course are to enable participants to:
• deal more effectively and appropriately with the challenges of cooperation in intercultural teams at universities of applied sciences and in higher education more generally
• use the culturally diverse perspectives and practices of such teams as a resource to generate innovative results and new practice
• understand better their own experiences in handling the complexity of intercultural interaction and leadership and to develop new approaches
• reflect on their own repertoire of competencies necessary for intercultural team interaction (i.e., skills and behavioural patterns, attitudes and personal qualities) with the aim of expanding this repertoire
The course, which will use a range of interactive training methods, will be conducted in English by a native speaker of British English able to provide immediate explanation in German of possibly unfamiliar terms.
Target group: Higher education staff who work in intercultural projects or teams as scientists, researchers, teachers, supervisors, team leaders, administrative employees
Termine: Donnerstag, 18.
